Overview
XBIOS is an extension of the
BIOS which completes the lowest layer API of the
TOS operating system. The reason why
XBIOS functions have not been included in
BIOS is that
BIOS was inded to keep compatible with PC's
BIOS standart. Thus, putting all Atari hardware specific functions in
XBIOS let the possibility for
BIOS to follow PC's evolving standart.
XBIOS Extensions
- GSX - DSP Audio extensions (incl. PCI sound cards)
- PLX - CTPCI extensions (incl. FireBee PCI)
- USB - currently not support hubs
- extended video - supports (SUPER)VIDEL + PCI video resolutions (XBIOS, VESA, DRIVER, MON.1 (the driver allow to read screen modes)
- modecode - get different frequency (56, 60, 70, 85 Hz)
- VIDIX - video playback extensions (17)
